Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and fellow AmeriCorps NCCC team members of Reid Huffman. The Denver Police determined that Reid died as a result of a hit-and-run accident.

This heart-breaking tragedy ended the life of a young man who had such promise and compassion. As an AmeriCorps NCCC member, he had committed a year of his life to giving back to his community.  Among many achievements, Reid and his fellow members completed trail restoration and environmental preservation work for the Mark Twain National Forest in Winona, Mo. Previously Reid and his Sun 6 AmeriCorps NCCC team served at Garden Place Academy in Denver, where they provided support to elementary students at an inner-city school.

The safety and health of our members are our top priorities, and we are providing them with counseling and other services during this difficult time. We will also work with the police and the Huffman family as the investigation of this matter continues.
