FY 2015 September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants

Executive Summary

The state of Arkansas is blessed with many veterans and military families. In order to engage more Arkansans in service and remembrance activities, The Arkansas Department of Career Education, Adult Education Division is responding to the call through its Arkansas Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy (WAGE') program. WAGE' is a work-based education program designed to ensure that unemployed and underemployed Arkansans have the basic skills necessary to become employed and remain successful in the workplace. In local WAGE' centers, adult education programs partner with community employers to teach basic educational skills to meet the workforce needs of the community.

Veterans and military families will be recognized across communities in Arkansas on September 11, 2015. Local WAGE' centers along with community volunteers, elected officials, and service providers, will honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 or who rose in service as a result of that tragedy. WAGE' centers in ten of the most prominent counties of Arkansas will devote the day to registering veterans and military family members for high demand occupational training.
