As Tropical Storm Barry churns toward south Louisiana, volunteers in Vermilion Parish learned how to muck out flooded homes Friday. The Catholic Charities of Acadiana held the training at St. Mary Magdalen Parish Hall in Abbeville. Ben Broussard, the organization’s chief communications officer, said the goal was to make sure volunteers are better equipped and trained than they were for the 2016 flooding.

The training session was led by Tamara Chance, an AmeriCorps program coordinator for Rebuilding Together Acadiana. She walked volunteers through some common mistakes people make when mucking out a home and explained the proper process.
