WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) today announced more than $5.3 million in Senior Corps RSVP funding to support senior volunteer service in 50 new communities across the country. These grants awarded to nonprofits and community agencies will expand RSVP’s presence in areas previously unserved by Senior Corps RSVP programs.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) announces that they will begin recruitment for up to 50 AmeriCorps VISTA members, to support the expansion of FIRST STEM education programs into 33 U.S. communities. The 50 AmeriCorps VISTA members, from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps, will be placed at sites across the country, providing a service valued at more than $1.4 million in support to FIRST in 2017.

The award, presented by National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD), recognizes the contributions CNCS programs have had in disaster response and recovery efforts throughout the country during the last year.

Since the program’s inception in 2009, CNCS has generated $1 billion in investments for evidence-based community solutions in 46 states and Washington, D.C.  Private and local funders have nearly tripled the federal investment, providing $672 million to expand programs that work.

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps, announced that more than 60 additional national service members have been deployed to support the response to the wildfires in Tennessee. Nearly 100 AmeriCorps members have been dispatched to the region since CNCS announced its first resources on the ground in early December.

In total, more than three dozen AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members are actively responding, with additional deployments pending and all AmeriCorps Disaster Response Teams on standby.
