Office will help communities in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming address pressing challenges

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency for service and volunteering, announced the opening of its new Mountain Region office in Denver.

CNCS CEO Barbara Stewart and new regional administrator Ken Goodson made the announcement at an event celebrating the 25th Anniversary of AmeriCorps during which nearly 300 new AmeriCorps members kicked off their year of service by taking the AmeriCorps pledge.

Serve Colorado, which administers the AmeriCorps program in Colorado, hosted the event. They were joined by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette.

As the nation's top provider of grants to support service and volunteering, CNCS harnesses America's most-powerful resource – the energy and talents of its citizens – to help communities address pressing challenges. These service efforts include tutoring and mentoring children, responding to the opioid crisis, or helping communities recover from disasters.

The Mountain Region office is one of eight new regional offices that will further these efforts by connecting communities with resources through the AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs. Its staff will assist national service applicants and grantees by providing training, technical assistance, and administrative oversight. In addition, they will promote the national days of service on MLK Day and September 11th.

The new office will serve seven states across the region: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. It is part of a first phase of regional office openings that also includes the Northeast Region office in Concord, N.H., and the North Central Region office in Kansas City, Mo. Five more offices – located in Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; Los Angeles; and Philadelphia – will open during the next year.

“I’m excited to be here as we open this new regional office,” said Barbara Stewart, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. “We have been fortunate to assemble an incredibly talented group of people to serve the Mountain Region. I can’t wait to see the work they do to help our country meet its most-pressing needs.”

The agency is currently hiring staff for positions at new regional offices in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Columbus, Ohio, and the job listings can be found on USA Jobs.
