March 27, 2008 Volunteers as Fund Raisers?Finding and Nurturing "Leadership Volunteers"

When Senior Corps projects describe “volunteers”, it is natural to automatically focus on Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions, or RSVP volunteers. This webinar focuses on how another pool of volunteers (“leadership volunteers”) can be fund raising assets. If you already have leadership volunteers, do they “head for the hills” when you mention fund raising? If you don’t already have them, would you like to find them? In this webinar, we’ll discuss how to find, attract and build the skills of the kind of volunteers you need to take on fund raising roles for your Senior Corps projects. Whether you begin with your project’s Advisory Council or the grantee organization’s Board, or need to learn how to move beyond those groups to find the right people to do the job, this webinar will help you shape a leadership team or find the individual you need to help meet your project’s fund raising needs. Learning objectives:

  • Participants will identify the ways in which they would like leadership volunteers to assist them in fund raising
  • Participants will identify at least 2 places to look for potential fundraising volunteer candidates in their communities
  • Participants will be able to develop an attractive recruitment “package” to motivate volunteers to participate

April 24, 2008 Developing a Case for Support to Tell Your Story

No one knows the strategies and successes of a Senior Corps project as well as its project director, but project directors are frequently too busy running their projects to get the story out in all the ways it could be told. This webinar will walk participants through an electronic tutorial to tell their story, assembling a case for support that can be used by the grantee organization’s executive director, development director or marketing staff, as well as by fund raising volunteers, to make sure Senior Corps accomplishments can be used effectively to write grants, develop brochures and fact sheets, attract partners and volunteers, and market your remarkable work without “re-inventing the wheel” every time! Learning objectives:

  • Participants will be able to navigate the Case for Support Tutorial
  • Participants will be able to create a Case for Support using the Case Q and A Template
  • Participants will be able to describe at least 2 ways they could use the Case to tell their story

May 22, 2008 Putting It All Together?How Grantee Organizations Can Appropriately Engage Project Staff and Leadership Volunteers to Fund Raise for Senior Corps Projects

This webinar will present several illustrations of ways that grantee organizations are effectively working with their Senior Corps projects and communities to sustain Senior Corps project funding. While every organization’s situation is unique and no single example can be adapted universally, this webinar will leave room for discussion that we hope will allow participants to think through some ways they can use the examples to generate their own sustainability strategies.Learning objectives:

  • Participants will be able to describe at least 3 approaches to grantee organizations and Senior Corps projects working together on fund raising initiatives
  • Participants will be able to identify 3 variables that impact the fund raising methods used
  • Participants will be able to talk through adapting one approach to their organization
